Does any one know if a program to have a web cam on my acer aspire one is accessible online?

@richer1121 how do i do the flash drive method along with tweaking the bios?
@Niqbal87 You can load W7 on a flash drive and install it that way (with miner tweaks in the bios) or you can by an external DVD drive from walmart and in return it for a full refund once your done.

@janolapino iv yet to try any games on it but got an acer laptop as well with faster cpu and the same graphics chip but clocked a little faster (the HD 4250, over the netbooks 4225) and so far have been abel to play Left 4 Dead, Left 4 dead 2, UT2004, Flat out 2, CSS, fifa09, trackmania nations.
So i reckon the netbook will be able to play most of them too. altho fifa 09 doesnt work too well on the laptop, its a poorly optimised game.
@RenegadeMaster07 depends. with normal configs, dual core processors will beat single cores ingame. but if you spec up (more ram, faster drive) the acer 521, it will beat the ION2 since it has DDR3, and not DDR2 like the rest of the netbooks.
@richer1121 hey my friend! I finally bought a 7200RPM HDD (western digital scorpio black 500gb) and a 4gb DDR3 1333mhz , and I have windows 7 pro 64bit. And it is SOOOO FREAKING FAST!!! it’s faster then my friends gaming laptop almost! haha thank you so much! this acer 521 OWNS every other netbook in the world! wow!

Most of the websites say it will only support 2 gb of ram but I can personally vouch for 4 gb. You do have to install a 64 bit OS to get it to work though.

@richer1121 Wow, this netbook supports 4 gigs of ram? Do you have any videos of yours? I thought the mobo only allowed 2 gigs.

do you think this will work on acer aspire one netbook with a intel atom prossecer and 160 hdd with 1.66 ghz and the processer is intel atom n450 and like i said 1.66 ghz
@janolapino The memory you need for the AO521:
PC3-8500 DDR3-1066 204pin SDRAM SODIMM
2GB $40, 4GB $70
If you get the 4GB you need a 64 bit OS (32 will not work). SSD does outperform HDD, however, it’s not necessary for a mini because your processor will still bottleneck, but it does help with boot time, and loading.
The SSD for AO521:
SSD/SATA 2.5-inch
A 60GB SSD will cost around $70. Or, you can get a 500GB 7200 RPM HDD for $45, which will also speed things up.

@richer1121 Oh I see. But the problem is that I can get windows 7 pro for free. but 4gigs of ram aint cheap! (and by the way, do you remember the type of RAM you buyed for your 521? because if I buy some, I would like to have the right one
haha anyway. Does SSD outperform the hard drive with normal tasks? like starting the computer, playing games or photoshoping, editing videos

@janolapino Actual, W7 Starter is faster than W7 HP, Pro, and Ultimate because Starter doesn’t utilize Windows Aero. However, you can’t install 4 GB of ram on the starter addition because it only supports a 32 bit OS. If you don’t have the money to upgrade to 4 GB of Ram + 64 bit OS, than go with 2 GB of Ram with the starter addition (it’s really fast too). I forgot to say, that u need Version 9.26 of the AMD GPU clock Tool. The newest version (9.8) won’t work.

i have done some tests:
without overclock watching the citadell on high nsettings: 13FPS
with overclocking: 19 FPS (660mhz core, 620mhz memory)
i have an kingston ssdnow v-series SSD and 2GB RAM
I will test it on my 721 today. Portal runs on high details with ca. 35FPS

looks a bit laggy. Try to overclock the GPU by AMD GPU clock tool to 555mhz. then u can play on high settings

So you know, you can upgrade it to 4 GB DDR3 and replace the hard drive with a SSD. Then preform a clean install of W7 64 bit. After all that it will blaze. Thats what I did to mine, LOVE IT!
